Dang is Gotham ever the most gorgeous typeface. They really are using it at the World Trade Center site.

I think a lot of designers have an inbred hatred for Arial and Times New Roman, if only because of gross overuse: they've been included on almost every personal computer since the 1980s. So, if someone uses Arial in a publication, they might as well be shouting, "Hey, I know next to nothing about fonts! Just like everyone else!"

Maybe this typeface elitism is just our way of pretending we're better than everybody else. Still, I use Vera Serif in my school papers and Hiragino Kaku Gothic over here. [Edit: Not anymore! It's Gotham now!]

Designers' hell: a bunch of demons, burning sulfur, and endless reams of paperwork typeset in Arial Bold.
