Today's is the first strip ever to be printed in The UTD Mercury.
In the summer of 2004, the wireless Internet-access network in the UTD apartments was changed - security for the greater, and connectivity for the worse. Most tenants' general workaround (including ours) was to order cable Internet and use a wireless router instead. Proliferation of these "access points" caused even greater interference problems.
So the UTD Information Resources department decided that all such wireless "access points" had to be taken down. A big controversy arose over UTD's authority to dictate this. One student posted a comment on Slashdot that received over 1,100 replies in twelve hours.
Less than a day later, IR discovered that the FCC had recently begun to regulate wireless signals such as these, and had to rescind their ban.
